Student Health Insurance
All Osteopathic Medicine (DO), Medical Sciences (MS), Pharmacy (PharmD), Physician Assistant/Public Health (MSPAS/MPH), and Public Health (MPH) MUST be covered by a Wellfleet Group, LLC -compliant health insurance plan for the benefit of the university community as required by accreditation.
Touro's Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP)
Students are automatically enrolled in the Touro University California Student Health Insurance Plan each year unless they submit a waiver request by the deadline. The premium is charged to the student account by term.
The cost of Touro's student health insurance plan is $4,588 for the 2024-2025 academic year. Costs are billed per term.
Plan Details
The Touro University California Sponsored Health Insurance Plan is a Preferred Provider Plan (PPO) designed specifically for Touro University California students and is underwritten by Aetna Student Health (ASH). With an emphasis on wellness, the plan is designed to provide full coverage for medical care, including annual routine physicals and immunizations. The Touro University California student health insurance plan offers both in-network and out-of-network benefits; it is an ACA-compliant Platinum-level plan.
Waiver Process
Maintaining health insurance coverage is mandatory for all on-ground Touro University California students. Students will be enrolled in the school plan unless an acceptable Waiver is provided in a timely manner. Acceptable Waivers:
- Parent, Spouse, Partner Employer Group plan
- COBRA
- Military/Veterans Benefits - Tricare
- Medicare
Individual health plans are acceptable with a minimum of the following benefits:
- Maximum Out of Pocket Expense of no more than $8,700
- Deductible Maximum of $3,500 per Individual
All insurance plans must have the following benefits to waive the student plan:
- Must be ACA Compliant
- Unlimited Lifetime Benefits
- Unlimited Office Visits
- Wellness Benefit
- Comprehensive Prescription Plan (cannot be restricted to generic only)
- Inpatient and outpatient Mental Health Benefits
- Plans must have a provider network for primary care, specialty, hospital, and diagnostics care in California
Short-term health insurance policies, traveler’s plans, or plans originating outside of the United States will not be accepted as part of the Waiver process.
