In Memoriam: Dr. Samantha 'Sam' Jane Antonio
Contingent of Touro Alums Converge in SoCal for Memorial Services
One of our cherished alums, Dr. Samantha "Sam" Jane Antonio, PharmD, from the Class of 2020, and MSMHS graduate from the Class of 2016, died July 2 at the age of 33.
The loss of such as vivacious and energetic member of our Touro University California family has us left us deeply saddened.
Dr. Antonio was an exceptional individual, exuding incredible presence, and her dedication to serving others was truly inspiring. During her time at Touro, she was always willing to lend a helping hand and had an unmatched enthusiasm for volunteering. Her passion for making a difference in the lives of others shone brightly both within our university and beyond.
Lasting Impression
Dr. Brigitte Ouabo, PharmD, Class of 2016, met Dr. Antonio when Dr. Antonio was seeking admission to the PharmD program at Touro.
Ouabo was a P4 serving the College of Pharmacy as a student interviewer.
"I gave her a 'Yes.' She was accepted and was in my sister's Class of 2020," Ouabo said. "We remained friends from then on."
Dr. Antonio was an esteemed member of the California Society of Health-System Pharmacists who played a vital role in the development of specialized pharmacist communities and managed the California Pharmacy Forum with great skill and knowledge. Her clinical expertise and commitment to excellence made her an invaluable asset to CSHP members, and her impact will be felt for years to come.
Beyond her academic achievements, Dr. Antonio possessed an exceptional gift — a magnificent singing voice that brought joy to those fortunate enough to hear her. She was a true gem, illuminating the lives of everyone around her with her warm spirit and genuine kindness. It was an honor and a privilege to have her as a part of our distinguished alumni community.
Services took place in early August in Rowland Heights, located in Los Angeles County. Ouabo was present with a contingent of Touro University California PharmD alums to honor their friend.
Mindful of Her Memory
The day saw Ouabo reflect on Stephen Covey's advice to begin with the end in mind.
"Let's all embrace this philosophy in every aspect of our lives, as in the end, it's the impact we leave behind that truly matters," Ouabo posted on social media the day Dr. Antonio was buried. "In the brief time she graced our lives, Samantha lived to the fullest, leaving an indelible mark. Let her example inspire us to make our time count and leave a lasting impact on the world."
As remember and celebrate the life of Dr. Samantha Antonio, we extend our heartfelt condolences to her family and friends during this difficult time. Let us reflect on the legacy she leaves behind, one of compassion, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to making the world a better place. Dr. Antonio's spirit will forever remain in the heart of our university, and she will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
