Pharmacy Staff Spotlight: Sutthida Torr
Michigan Native Pursues Education Doctorate
Sutthida Torr joined Touro University California's College of Pharmacy in September 2022 as Coordinator of Assessment. She, with the Associate Dean of Assessment, collects data on university and national surveys.
Torr is also responsible for creating ExamSoft shells for faculty, helping students troubleshoot ExamSoft issues, and ensuring that all students are enrolled in the correct courses on ExamSoft. On exam days, she creates seating charts for students and helps proctor when needed. Furthermore, she keeps track of the students' grades and follow-ups with their advisers to help them with their academic performance.
Focus on Education
Torr received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of California, Davis and her Master of Arts degree in Public Administration from California State University, Fresno. She is currently pursuing her Doctor of Education degree at Touro's Graduate School of Education.
After working at Fresno State and being a part of the Hmong Student Union at UC Davis, she found her passion in helping higher education institutions improve relationships with their students, especially those from low-income and vulnerable populations. With a doctoral degree, she hopes to help reform the higher education system and create a welcoming and diverse environment for future leaders.
Previous Experience
Prior to working at Touro University California, Torr worked at Edward Jones, where she helped process gift donations to UC Davis and 529 accounts for families preparing to send their children to college. She also coordinated a community event, The Backpack Drive, where she encouraged her clients and local businesses to donate school supplies to low-income students at a local elementary school.
Torr was born in Warren, Michigan, and moved to Thailand with her parents at the age of 8. She lived in Thailand for five years before moving back to the States. She loves cooking Hmong and Thai food, hiking with her boyfriend and two dogs, and spending time with her 13 nieces and nephews.
