Biography
Dr. Bibi Maryam Abed is an Associate Professor at Touro University California College of Osteopathic Medicine and a physician, medical educator, and public health professional with more than 12 years of experience in teaching, research, and academic leadership. She earned her medical degree and Master of Public Health from Kabul University of Medical Science and a Master of Science in Global Health from the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), with a focus on noncommunicable diseases and health systems. Her academic work centers on pathology and histology education, with an emphasis on connecting foundational biomedical sciences to clinical understanding. Her research and professional interests include global health, noncommunicable diseases, maternal and child health, refugee and underserved populations, and healthcare access in crisis-affected communities, informed by her experience across the Middle East, the Caribbean, and community-based work with refugee populations in the United States. As an educator, Dr. Abed values active learning, critical thinking, and mentorship and is committed to creating a supportive learning environment that helps future physicians connect disease mechanisms with patient care and the broader factors that influence health.
