Biography

I am a pharmacologist by training and teach in the PharmD program. My teaching covers a variety of topics in pharmacology starting with introductory topics such as introduction to pharmacodynamics and drug receptor interactions to more advanced topics in psych pharmacology and oncology. I incorporate active learning and project-based approach in my teaching with the emphasis on critical thinking and understanding of concepts. My teaching philosophy is to equip our students with skills and competencies so that they become lifelong learners. My bench research interests include cancer biology and pharmacology, especially identification of novel anti-cancer agents from natural products and evaluation of peptides for targeted cancer therapy. I am also interested in studying various aspects of cell differentiation and cell death. In addition, I am engaged in scholarship of teaching and learning such as effects of flipped classroom in student outcomes, how students use classroom technology such as video recordings, enhancing student engagement using critical thinking exercises in classroom to name a few. I have recently obtained a certificate in Effective College Instruction from ACUE & American Council of Education.
