Biography
I am a Professor in the Community Action for Health Concentration in the Public Health Program at Touro University California teaching courses in Community Health Promotion and School Health Equity. I work with local community and school leaders to develop and implement school community interventions focused on increasing student interest, knowledge and skills related to public health, adolescent health and wellbeing and educational and health equity. Currently we are integrating Public Health and educational equity programs with local high school programs. We utilize a Youth Participatory Action framework working closely with youth leaders as peer health promoters. I am Co-Chair of the TUC Public Health Community Action and Advisory Council that aims to work collaborately with community leaders to improve opportunities for health in our local communities.

Research
I have served as the Principal Investigator for projects focused on engaging youth and families as leaders in improving opportunities for health and wellness in low-income ethnically diverse communities and schools, including, for example: Schools Wellness Project in seven SF Bay Area cities, Strengthening Families Project in collaboration with Kaiser Permanente in four SF Bay Area locations, the ENERGY Project focused on healthy eating, physical activity and increasing access to healthy food in two Vallejo schools, and Youth in Action for Health Youth Participatory Action Research in BioMedical Academy in a Vallejo School.
